A lovely tale for telling at West Town where the farm team of Farmer Helen, Farmer Sarah, Farmer Mickey and Farmer Kate can be seen busy at work.

The old farmer want to retire and sets his two sons the challenge of filling the house with something that they can get for a penny. Lots of head scratching from long armed Andy and mighty muscled Marty and quiet frustration from Sara who is told that she can’t have a go cos she is girl.

Andy tries feathers – tickly and sneezy and everyone has to sleep in the barn

Marty tries straw – scratchy and itchy and everyone has to sleep in the barn

Sara persuades her old dad that he can retire if he lets her have the last penny. She buys a little bit of bees wax and a bit of string and fills the house with light.

The boys are amazed, the old man over joyed and farmer Sara takes on the farm.
